HISTORY AND PHILOSOPY
In 2010 Layla Amis and Duncan Cooper joined forces to co-create and direct a summer program in Santa Fe, New Mexico. 2012 marked the first year of the newly evolved and reformatted vision of what is now known as Modas Dance Summer Intensive. The new name of the revamped summer program (Modas) comes from the word Modus Operandi; A manner of acting or doing; method, way. And so we ask, what is your Mode of Operation as a young aspiring dance artist?
We invite you to bring your unique talent to the table and challenge you to explore your full potential, expand upon what you know, what you thought you knew and what’s out here for you to discover amongst the many different approaches and methods that make-up our program.
Over the lifetime of a successful career, most dancers will find themselves working in one, if not all, of the three big dance markets:
Concert Dance (Ballet, Contemporary & Modern companies)
Show (Broadway & Vegas)
In the ever-evolving dance world it’s not enough to be great at one or even two disciplines of dance. This current generation has to be well versed and skilled in a multitude of dance techniques and approaches.
